Church

As reported by InfoDimanche, the Church of the Beheading of St. John the Baptist in L'Isle Verte in Quebec was broken into and damaged.
On June 2, 2025, it was reported that an individual or individuals broke into the church by breaking a window to gain entrance in the church. It was then discovered that the organ was severely damaged, the keys had been forced open, the instrument would not make any sounds. The panel of the organ had been torn off and the pipes that carried air to the bellows were crushed. The instrument cost in damages in several thousand dollars.
It was also discovered that a heating unit in the basement had been sprayed with asbestos. Suzanne Marquis, the president of parish council thinks that the individuals would then have suffered exposure which could be damaged towards the individuals health.
Marquis expressed dismay at the actions of the individuals, stating that if they had wanted to be in the church to see it, they could have come at regular hours when the church was open to the public. She also expresses that the damages are much for the church in their current financial standing.
A wooden board has been used to cover the broken window and a damage expert will be called in to assess the organ and the heating unit. Marquis was glad that they did not gain entrance to the bell tower at the least, that they would not injure themselves in any way.
The parish has filed a complaint with the Surete du Quebec and an investigation is pending.
